邀人合照、她的微笑

問:學期將完結,想和外籍老師合照留念,英文怎麼說?假如說 Do you mind taking a photo with me?他會不會誤會,以為是請他拿相機給我拍照?
答:讀者自擬的說法沒有錯,不可能引起誤會。另一說法是 Would you take a picture with me?
假如要請人家拿相機給你拍照,那應用另一說法: Could/ Would you take a picture of me please?或 Could/ Would you take my picture please?
假如要請人家讓你拍下他的樣子,那就應說 Would you mind if I took your picture?或 Do you mind if I take a picture of you?語氣上, would you mind比 do you mind更加客氣。
問:「我的朋友」英文是 my friend或 a friend of mine,但不可說 a friend of me;然則「蒙娜麗莎的微笑」是不是只可說 Mona Lisa's smile或 the smile of Mona Lisa's,不可說 the smile of Mona Lisa?
答: He is my friend和 He is a friend of mine都是說「他是我的朋友」,但 my friend有「特殊或唯一朋友」含義, a friend of mine則只是「一個朋友」,意思頗有分別。而要表示佔有,英文一般不用「 of+受格代名詞( object pronoun,即 me、 him等)」。
「蒙娜麗莎的微笑」則不同,一般會說 Mona Lisa's smile或 the smile of Mona Lisa。假如說 that smile of Mona Lisa's,則可能帶不喜歡意味,例如: I find that smile of Mona Lisa's rather affected(我覺得蒙娜麗莎那臉微笑有些造作)。
